Frustrated

A St Michael man who has been on remand for the last three years today expressed frustration over the lack of progress in his case.

Abraham Hutchinson Sandiford, of Mayers Land, Lower Richmond Gap, St Michael, is accused of using a firearm on January 4, 2015 when he did not have a valid licence to do so and unlawfully wounding Karl Yearwood on the same date with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him or to do some serious bodily harm to him.

Sandiford, was 31 years old when he first appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in October 2015 charged with the indictable offence to which he is not required to plead.

“This is four years I in jail and can’t get my case start,” the accused told Magistrate Douglas Frederick today.

“I came before the court in 2015 . . . and I haven’t gotten any disclosure. This is three years that I have been asking for my pre-trials,” Sandiford added.

In response, the prosecutor said he had been trying his best to get the file and will again attempt to do so before the accused returns to court on January 31.

However Magistrate Frederick made it clear that he would have to make a decision on Sandiford’s case on that occasion if there was no progress.
