Accused changes his guilty plea

Earlier in the week when Aaron Jairaj Brisport appeared on a wounding charge before Acting Magistrate Anika Jackson, he pleaded guilty and the facts were outlined by prosecutor Police Constable Kenmore Phillips.

However when he showed some misunderstanding, the matter was adjourned. Today, when the matter resumed, he had as defence counsel, Michael Lashley, QC, in association with Dayna Taylor-Lavine. Lashley made a submission to have the earlier plea vacated and it was granted.

Brisport, 20, of Salters, St George, is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Curwen Bishop of St Stephen’s Landing Scheme, Black Rock, St Michael, on January 27.

The acting magistrate read the charges and Brisport pleaded not guilty.

Before granting bail in the sum of $750, the acting magistrate warned Brisport and Bishop “to see each other and don’t interfere . . . if any issues arise we have facilities in place. Don’t take the law into your own hands.”

The matter was adjourned until July 3.
