Local News Red hot sales Anesta Henry15/02/20200262 views When Barbados TODAY City, some people were buying teddy bears, roses, chocolates, and other gifts, while others, mainly women, were focused on putting together outfits for the special occasion. Storeowner Keith Walcott who stocked his store with a variety of Valentine’s Day treats reported “sales were going well”. “People love Valentine’s Day. From early I started putting together my stock and all this week people have been buying. But the rush really started yesterday. I catered for everybody pocket and got my items priced from a lollipop for $1,” Walcott said. At Harmony, Swan Street, women were trying on dresses, and searching for accessories, to make sure they were well put together for tonight. Some women were also purchasing red dresses to wear to church on Saturday and Sunday. Floor Manager Pauline Lowe said Harmony noticed that people started shopping for Valentine’s Day since last week. “To me people started to shop a little earlier than usual. I believe last week was a little busier and we had more customers asking for red and white for church and dinners. People don’t necessarily want anything too dressy. They want dresses that are easy to wear and flexible that they can wear tonight but still wear again to church or somewhere else,” Lowe said. One Swan Street vendor said that while she was enjoying sweet sales over the past week, she anticipated her stock would be almost sold out by Saturday. One of the persons Barbados TODAY found looking for that perfect gift was Minister of Home Affairs Edmund Hinkson who encouraged Barbadians to reflect on the true meaning of love. “It is better to live in peace and love with one another, than in conflict and strife. We need events and days such as these to remember what life is really about. It is about togetherness and living together as one. We really and truly have as a nation to cut out the strife and the conflict and the violence and the criminal activities and elements,” Hinkson said. anestahenry@barbadostoday.bb
