Let those creative juices flow! . . . Workshop scheduled to inspire writers

Barbados has a lot of stories to be told about its history and heritage, says one London-based creative writer.

Dr Kathy Mansfield told Bajan Vibes she was interested in seeing a lot more Barbadians creatively telling the story of their country, and she would be seeking to help inspire that by hosting a creative writing workshop under the auspices of the Barbados Community College (BCC).

She explained that the event which comes off on Saturday, February 29 at the Language Centre, should serve as a stimulus for people who were seeking to get their creative juices flowing.

“Barbados is a place with such a history and there are so many stories here waiting to be told by people putting their pen to the blank page and writing,” she said. “That is what I am hoping for,” said Mansfield.

The consultant who worked for about six years as a governance advisor in Barbados before taking up creative writing, said this was her way of sharing her knowledge with residents.

“I thought it would be useful,” she said, adding that Principal of the BCC Annette Alleyne agreed there was need to “encourage a new generation of creative writing in Barbados”.

She said following this workshop, she was hoping to form a long-lasting relationship with the learning institution. “I hope to be able to make a relationship with the community college on creative writing with their staff and work with them. That is something I would really like to do,” she said.

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and carries a fee of $100. For more information, interested persons are asked to email kanukacreative@gmail.com. (MM)
