US Embassy hosts special event to bring the curtain down on Black History Month Barbados Today02/03/20200295 views In honor of Black History Month, the U.S. Embassy in Barbados hosted a “Black History Lime” and movie screening of the documentary Apollo at the George Washington House last Friday. The event was a unique celebration of black excellence and highlighted innovative young entrepreneurs who were alumni of U.S. Government exchange programs. During the event guests were treated to a screening of the documentary The Apollo focusing on the Apollo Theater, which is internationally renowned for having influenced American and pop culture more than any other entertainment venue. Academy and Emmy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams chronicles the unique history and contemporary legacy of the New York City landmark, which created opportunities for new talent to be seen and has served as a launchpad for myriad artists including Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and more.
