Court Local News No bail for St Thomas man Barbados Today16/06/20200421 views Michael Charles Bowen A 30-year-old man accused of two indictable offences under the Theft Act has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Dodds Prison. Michael Charles Bowen, of Redman’s Village, St Thomas is charged with stealing a $25 000 motor van between December 24, 2019 and January 5, 2020 belonging to Cuthbert Nyack. The unemployed man is further accused of entering Nyack’s residence as a trespasser during the same period and stealing items valued at $38,060. Among the items taken were five drills, four light bulbs, two gas containers, 20 chisels, four electric meters, a fan, a grinder, a hot air blower, a chain saw, along with a counter top stove, a pressure washer, a toaster, a hair dryer, a tripod, a computer system and two computer monitors. Station Sergeant Cameron Gibson making submissions before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offences leveled against Bowen and the fact that lawmen were still carrying out investigations in a bid to recover some of the property. The prosecutor also pointed to Bowen’s ten antecedents, three of which he said fell under the Theft Act. In his submissions for bail, Bowen told the magistrate he was currently working “doing the ground” and that he had not resided in Redman’s Village for the past seven to eight months. He explained that he had seven children all of whom he had to support. “Madam I don’t really have any money for myself cause I does take care of my children. “All I do is clean my brother’s bedroom who died in December. I cleaned it in January,” Bowen said adding that his mother had requested his help to do so. Bowen’s application was denied and he will return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on July 13.
