Gun runner pursued by police

When police approached a crowd of people attending a fete at a bar at Gunsite Road, Britton’s Hill, St Michael, nearly two years ago, they observed Shamar Jamal Kelvin Marshall with a green and black gun in his hand.

On seeing the officers however, Marshall took off running causing police to give chase.

Reading the facts of the case today Senior Crown Counsel Olivia Davis said based on the police report Marshall, of Blackmans Road, Carrington Village, St Michael, ran towards a fenced area next to the bar which resulted in one of the officers shouting “Police! Drop the gun!”

That directive reportedly fell on deaf ears as Marshall maintained possession of the firearm and kept running towards the chain link fence and quickly scaled it. According to the prosecutor the officers followed suit, never losing sight of the fleeing man.

The chase however ended at a guard wall when police observed Marshall throwing the weapon onto a nearby property before turning towards the officers with both hands raised. He was held and the firearm retrieved.

Asked at the time what he could say about the firearm and the ammunition found in the magazine Marshall reportedly replied: “Officer I ain’t know about no gun.”

However, recently in the No. 2 Supreme Court before Justice Randall Worrell, the accused pleaded guilty to having a .40 calibre glock semi-automatic pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition without the necessary licences. The crimes were committed on October 20, 2018.

The case against Marshall continues before Justice Worrell on Thursday, July 9. He has 11 prior convictions – four for burglary; three for theft; one for robbery; one for wounding and two possession of cannabis.

The convicted man is represented by attorney-at-law Mohia Ma’at and has been on remand at Dodds in connection to the two charges for the past 473 days.
