#BajanVibes – From Boatyard to Soca Yard . . . Soca Fest starts this weekend

n the past, the Boatyard had built a reputation as one of Barbados’ premiere party spots. Under the management of J’NASA Entertainment, it is set to return to this position of prominence.

To signal the start of a new initiative, the venue will be rebranded the Soca Yard and their team will host their inaugural event, the D’ Music Summer Soca Fest. The packed calendar will include a range of events set to create a hive of activity. There will be themed nights, beach events, band nights and after work limes during the festival slated to run from July 18 to August 28, 2020.

Carisia-Ann Sampson, managing director of the group, provided some background information at a recent press launch. She explained that J’NASA is a new, vibrant entertainment group which, for the past couple years, has been in the background managing some of the island’s artistes including Marzville and his band The Element.

Prior to COVID-19 they had launched a Sunday Beach Lime at Island Coconuts, which had started to grow in popularity. However, Sampson believes that the time is now right to increase the scope of what they do.

Through a lease agreement, their team will be taking over the night management of the Boatyard and will control the food, bar and the entire grounds.

The first event which is sure to create a buzz, will feature an all-star cast including Lil Rick, Mikey, Hypasounds and Peter Ram. Some upcoming artistes like Jus D, Walkes and Jai- A will also be a part of the entertainment package. The Element will be the backing band for the production and a hot deejay lineup will be in place to keep the tunes pumping throughout the night.

Soca Yard will be the main location for most of the festival events. However, J’NASA Entertainment will restart their Sunday limes at Island Coconut, incorporating it into the festival schedule. The full calendar will be released on all platforms shortly.

When the festival is completed, the group will be catering to private events including birthday parties, wedding receptions and fetes. They are receptive to working with cultural practitioners as they add their own touch to the venue.

Sampson said: “This opportunity is truly a blessing and we invite everyone to come out and share in the experience with us.”

D’Music App is the title sponsor and they are also working closely with Remy Martin, Mount Gay Rum and Dewars. Orange Apple Creative will be responsible for the graphics.(STT)
