Several traffic changes for state funeral

The public is advised that there will be several road traffic changes to facilitate the State Funeral for the late Prime Minister, Professor The Right Honourable Owen Seymour Arthur, being held tomorrow, Friday, August 14.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park or remain stationary on any of the routes along which the procession will pass. In addition, no member of the public will be allowed to enter or follow the procession along the route.

The procession will leave Lyndhurst Funeral home at 11:45 a.m. Vehicular traffic will not be permitted to enter St. Michael’s Row, Trafalgar Street, Broad Street and Cowell Street. These roads should be clear of all vehicles by the time the procession reaches Roebuck Street. Traffic will also be restricted on Trafalgar Street, Upper Broad Street, Lower Broad Street or Cowell Street. Traffic coming from Fontabelle will be diverted on to Lakes Folly, while traffic coming to Cheapside will be diverted at Chapel Street on to Hart Street.

From Battaleys/K.N.R. Husbands Highway to St. Peter’s Parish Church, the following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from noon to 4:00 p.m.: Queen Street, Church Street and Orange Street. These roads should be clear of all vehicles by the time the procession reaches Battaleys.

In addition, from Mile-and-a-Quarter to Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, a number of roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. These are: Mile-and-a-Quarter Road, Benn Hill Road, Ebworth Road, and Portland Road.

They should be clear of all vehicles by the time the procession reaches the junction of Mile-and-a-Quarter and Highway 2A. Traffic may also be diverted on to alternate routes.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to comply with the directions of police officers who will be posted at strategic locations. (BGIS)
