Housing Local News News 100 to choose house lots soon Anesta Henry12/09/20201565 views Dr William Duguid Before the end of the 2020, some 100 Barbadians who were successful at today’s land fair at Lancaster, St James will receive the opportunity to choose their lots. During a brief groundbreaking ceremony for the infrastructural works at Vespera Gardens, Lancaster Phase 3, Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dr William Duguid, said that within the next 12 weeks, the road infrastructure in the area will be completed. “I am told that for the 100 lots, we have had over 300 applications and people have already been preapproved for their mortgages and there are another 140 odd people waiting to get in to put in their applications. So we are very happy with the turnout and we are extremely pleased with the amount of interest that we are having with people coming to buy lots here at Lancaster,” he said. Dr Duguid told those who will not be successful in being able to purchase lots at Lancaster, there will be other opportunities when land fairs are held in other areas of the country, including Colleton, St John and Chancery Lane, Christ Church. “As you can see we are constantly putting in roads where necessary, and where we have roads already we are looking to sell the lots because everybody must get a chance to own a piece of the rock in Barbados. “So we are very happy that the contractor was able to come in with a competitive bid and we are very happy with the result and we look forward to them getting this done as quickly as possible so we can get some houses built here. At the end of the day this is the main focus of this government, to get people back to work, back to providing food for their families, being able to feel confident and comfortable being productive members of this society,” Dr Duguid said. The Minister said that at least 40 Barbadians should be employed on the road infrastructural project at Lancaster Phase 3. (AH)
