St John man admits to breaking, entering and stealing

A guilty plea came eight years after a man burglarized a couple’s home stealing $18,000 in property including wedding rings.

Kobia Jamar Robinson, 32, of Spooner’s, St John admitted that he and three other men broke into the Christ Church home.

It was on August 24, 2012 around 8 a.m. that Peter and Sitra Samuels locked and secured their home before going to work.

At 2 p.m. Peter received a call from his wife and they both returned home. On their arrival, they noticed that police were already at the house. On closer inspection they saw a strip to the door broken, glass was shattered and it looked like the door was pried open.

Inside the house was chaotic with the cushions in disarray and a 50 inch television no longer in its place.

As they walked through the house they also noticed that the DVD player was missing and 20 silk ties had vanished. A watch, wedding band, three pairs of earrings, one bracelet and a perfume were also taken.

Police began investigating the matter and on September 9, 2012 they took one of the men who participated in the robbery to the house.

That accused recounted what happened on the date of the burglary.

Robinson was interviewed by officers but refused a lawyer.

He admitted breaking into the house with other persons, taking the items. He then gave a statement to police.

Robinson, who is also called ‘Short Man’, said one of the accused collected him and two others in a vehicle.

The plan was to “look for a house to break in and get some things”. They targeted a house near the Grantley Adams International Airport. Robinson and two of the co-accused walked toward the house while the driver remained outside as the lookout.

One accused was armed with a screwdriver and together they tried to pry open the door to the house. Robinson said they then went inside and as he ventured upstairs he didn’t find anything.

It was on his return downstairs that he took two vodkas. He said he saw the other accused with watches, jewelry and a black bag. The three worked together to lift the television, placed it in the back seat of the vehicle and left.

The police questioned Robinson further and he gave information about the whereabouts of some of the stolen property.

Robinson also identified the house and showed officers how they pried opened the door to enter the house. He also pointed out to them where they lifted the television over a fence.

The stolen perfume was discovered at Robinson’s home and other stolen items were recovered and identified by the couple at the police station.

Robinson will return to No. 2 Supreme Court on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
