Pilgrim congratulates De Peiza

Former General Secretary of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) George Pilgrim has congratulated returning President Verla De Peiza on being re-elected to lead the party’s Executive.

Pilgrim was hoping to take that post from De Peiza, which she held for the past two years.

However, the internal election results showed that De Peiza received 349 votes to Pilgrim’s 197.

During an interview with Barbados TODAY following the announcement of the results, Pilgrim said the members have spoken and he has listened.

It was late August that the ex-general secretary declared his candidacy to lead the DLP that was voted out of Parliament about two and a half years ago.

At that time, Pilgrim told Barbados TODAY that he was nominated to the post of president, and answered the call from the party’s base and members of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) who felt that the country required balance in the political landscape. (AH)
