Ministers get bird’s eye view of work sites

Ministers in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Maintenance have been making the rounds across the island, touring work sites and keeping up to date on the progress of the Ministry’s projects.

Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Ian Gooding Edghill and Charles Griffith were on site Wednesdayat Ridge Road, St. Joseph, observing the performance of the Ministry’s newest flail mower machine.

The machine has been commissioned to clear the overgrown shrub which has been impeding visibility on the roads in the eastern parish of St. Joseph. Minister Gooding-Edghill toured the parish with the Parliamentary Representative for the area Attorney General the Honourable Dale Marshall late last week.

It is expected that within approximately three weeks the road edges and the overgrowth of vegetation will be addressed, thereby significantly improving the aesthetics of the roadways. Property owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to keep the road reserve area of their properties cleared.

While on the tour with Attorney General Marshall, Minister Gooding-Edghill pinpointed a number of roads currently being rehabilitated by the Ministry such as Dark Hole and Fruitful Hill. AG Marshall also took the opportunity to highlight a number of roads and bridges in St. Joseph that are in dire need of repair.

The ministers are also keeping abreast of the projects being undertaken in Greenidge Road and Murphy’s Pasture. At Murphy Pasture, a concrete drain from Mason Hall Street to Kensington Road is being constructed in an effort to alleviate flooding in the area. At Greenidge Road, the drain is being improved and reconstructed. The drain will also seek to alleviate the flooding issues in the immediate area.

Ministers Gooding-Edghill and Griffith will continue to make weekly tours of the projects and road works currently being undertaken by the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources. (PR)
