Local News News Many schools benefitting from Kiwanis don’t litter drive Barbados Today Traffic13/11/20200272 views A new initiative between Kiwanis Club of Barbados West and two of Barbados’ leading building supplies companies has been launched. Infra Equipment Rentals Ltd has partnered with Berger Paints to provide garbage bins to schools across the island to assist with keeping garbage and trash off school grounds and from the streets in surrounding communities. On Wednesday six bins were presented to the Eden Lodge Primary School. CEO of the JADA Group, parent company of Infra Equipment Rentals Ltd. Philip Tempro said, “Infra Rentals is extremely pleased to work with Kiwanis Club of Barbados West and Berger Paints on this anti-littering initiative. Our goals for the programme are two-pronged. First, sustainability – we want to reduce our own garbage going to the landfill. Second, a cleaner Barbados – for these upcycled bins to then be used to reduce litter across the island. “With our established commitment to supporting Barbados’ children, we really wanted to marry these two initiatives. We contacted the Kiwanis club to assist with coordinating distribution to the schools, and the team at Berger Paints was very quick to get involved to upcycle their bins as well. “The ongoing maintenance of our fleet of large equipment for rental means that we will have a continual supply of these cans So we are excited to, in time, be able to provide these bins to every single school, group and community that requires additional garbage receptacles.” General Manager of Berger Paints, Kirk King added, “Keeping the environment clean is everyone’s responsibility. Berger Paints fully endorses initiatives such as these; now more than ever, we must support the efforts of our nation’s youth to keep their school environs clean. “Berger Paints is an ISO Quality Systems and Environmental certified company, therefore, initiatives aimed at the preservation of the environment is a part of our daily routine. The choice of biocides and even the packaging of our Berger Royale and Berger Weatherproof (super premium emulsions) are in containers made from recycled materials. Berger is pleased to provide the bins for the schools that are a part of this greening movement.” Immediate Past President Gabrielle Galuschka stated, “The members of the Kiwanis Club of Barbados West (formerly Kiwanis Club of Pride Online Barbados) are always seeking ways to assist the youth in our community. This project is a perfect example for us not only to encourage everyone to keep our country clean but also to maintain our outreach. We are very happy to partner with Infra Equipment Rentals Ltd and Berger Paints on this exciting initiative as we continue to make an impact on the schools and communities across Barbados.” The first bins were donated on Friday, 9 October. Four bins were donated to Combermere and two bins, along with an automatic hand sanitizer, were given to the Ann Hill School. (PR)
