Man caught with ‘shots’

Acting on information received lawmen went to Baycroft Village, Carrington Village, St Michael on September 29, 2019.

On nearing the area they came across a motorcar with two men and ordered it to stop. The men did not readily comply when asked by police to do so. One of the men in the vehicle was identified as Andre Omar Burgess.

As he was searched police found a transparent plastic bag containing two rounds of ammunition in his back pocket.

“This is shots,” Burgess reportedly told police at the time. When asked to explain what he meant by “shots”, he replied: “I mean bullets”.

Investigations continued and during that time Burgess refused to give investigators a statement. According to the facts read by Crown Counsel Romario Straker in the No. 2 Supreme Court today when shown and asked about the bullets he said he could remember having it in his pocket.

On Monday, November 16 he pleaded guilty before Justice Randall Worrell to having the two rounds of .45 calibre ammunition in his possession on the mentioned date without having the necessary permit to do so.

Burgess’ case will continue on January 29, 2021 where his time spent on remand is expected to be read in. The now convicted man is being represented by attorney-at-law Shadia Simpson.
