Spooner’s Hill Popular ‘to reopen’

Popular Discounts supermarket on Spooner’s Hill is set to reopen its doors Wednesday, a day after it was closed for extensive cleaning owing to a staff member testing positive for the coronavirus, the company said Tuesday.

A statement from the company said: “We at Popular Discounts were today advised that one of our non-frontline staff at the Spooner’s Hill location has received a positive test result for COVID-19. ”

It added that the staff member was tested last Thursday and has been at home in self-quarantine awaiting the result since then.

Popular said: “We are diligently following the protocols as outlined by the health authorities which includes identifying his primary contacts. These primary contacts have already been sent for testing for COVID-19. They will be off work until the results of their tests are known.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have also taken the decision to close the branch today, February 16 for comprehensive and professional sanitisation.”

The branch is scheduled to reopen Wednesday “in a safe environment for our staff and customers”, the company said. (BT/PR)
