Local News News 210 families benefit from Rubis’ kindness Barbados Today Traffic02/04/20210254 views Two hundred and ten families on the island who have been finding it difficult to make ends meet during this time of COVID-19, will have one less thing to worry about soon, after RUBIS Barbados, who are celebrating their 10th anniversary, officially donated over 200 vouchers for these families to obtain liquid petroleum gas (LPG) bottles. This announcement was made by RUBIS marketing manager, Andrea Gooding, during a brief handing over ceremony at their Welches, St Thomas head office Thursday. According to Gooding, RUBIS has made several donations to at risk families since the beginning of the pandemic, such as PPE to the Ministry of Health, as well as tablets to the Ministry of Education for students. This recent donation from the company originated from RUBIS workers themselves from around the island, who pitched in their own money towards this venture. “Last month our RUBIGAS team came up with an initiative to assist vulnerable families with some 25lb LPG refills. We did not ask the company to help us, we asked our staff. We asked them to see how many bottles we could raise to donate to those persons who would have lost their jobs during the pandemic. “I am very proud to say as a team, we donated $4300, and that equates to 105 RUBIGAS 25lb cylinders. The company was so proud of what the staff had done, that they agreed to match that donation, so in fact, we have 210 RUBIGAS 25lb refills to donate today,” she revealed. These vouchers will be given to two governmental entities, the Household Mitigation Unit and the Barbados Family Survival Programme, who will disburse the much-needed vouchers soon to these vulnerable persons. Special advisor to the Prime Minister, Corey Lane, graciously accepted the donations on behalf of Government during the presentation, and said that the families who will receive the donations, would have one less thing to worry about during this testing time. “It’s not just a company saying corporate social responsibility and ticking a box, but sincerely and heartfelt [that] employees have come together to ensure that 210 families have one less thing to worry about as they struggle to put food on the table. “I feel a sense of gratitude on behalf of all the families…on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry, and the Prime Minister’s Office and the Household Mitigation Unit.” (PR)
