News Speaking Out #BTSpeakingOut – Never on Sinday Barbados Today21/04/20211201 views Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed by this author are their own and do not represent the official position of the Barbados Today Inc. Some words shall never in the foreseeable future be intoned without locals (and yes Vincentians) feeling a twinge. The words are, “Dust to dust – ash(es) to ash(es).” Oh my goodness, can any of us who live through this day and nightmare ever think only of funerals when again we hear those words? For some of the guests, and yes there are probably more guests than mourners at any funeral, albeit that the number of attendees has been slashed during Covid19; the opportunity has also been lost, not only to fraternise but also for some, to gourmandise on ‘funereal baked meats.’ I am sure that this depiction does not apply to you. Now and in the immediate future, however, we may think that those words, meant to convey eternal banishment from this earth plane, may just be La Soufriere’s comic relief to recognise its existence which began before time. Nevertheless, I don’t want to impute improper motives to the volcano which may just want to relieve itself. Indeed, it may well want us to know that it shall not erupt on a particular (human) day and it gives notice – Never on Sinday. It has the last laugh. Michael Rudder
