Local News News Tourism Carter gets BTMI Global Markets post Barbados Today27/04/20210305 views The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) has named one of its stalwarts as the Interim Head of Global Markets. Cheryl Carter, who has been with the BTMI for several years, has been appointed in the position that was held by outgoing acting BTMI chief executive officer (CEO), Petra Roach. Roach’s sudden resignation was to take effect from June 30, however, she has since been announced by the Grenada Government as the incoming CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority. According to BTMI chairperson Roseanne Myers, the national tourism agency was pleased with the performance of Carter, who is currently director of the United Kingdom market. Myers told Barbados TODAY in a recent interview: “I am very confident in the BTMI team. The UK market as the most important market is led by Cheryl Carter. “Cheryl, in 2019, in a Brexit environment, was able to deliver the highest numbers out of the UK that Barbados has ever seen. It was a record in 2019 under Cheryl Carter’s leadership and so we have appointed her interim Head of Global of Markets.” Myers, who also chairs the Barbados Tourism Product Authority (BTPA), said the tourism executive, who also has many years experience in the Canadian market, had “pulled the UK team together and hit the ground running” since shifting to Europe. And as local tourism officials plan a resurgence of the sector for the coming winter season, Myers said, “We are looking at re-emerging with the UK as the primary focus.” Myers, who is also general manager of Atlantis Submarines Barbados, added: “We are very much supportive of the team and the board’s role is to ensure the corporate governance and administrative structures are in place and to give these officers the resources they need to go out there and fight for the business for Barbados.” (IMC1)
