Forty-year-old Jason Omar Hinds from Broomfield admitted in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that he unlawfully assaulted the woman on June 4. Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes heard from Sergeant Victoria Taitt that Hinds had called the complainant on her cellular phone and informed her that he wished to be intimate with her. She refused which angered him. He continued trying to contact her on the device. While at a bus stop in Bridgetown the woman saw Hinds trying to get her attention but she ignored him which led to him confronting her. The situation came to a head with him cuffing her in the stomach twice while grabbing her wrist. The matter was reported and the complainant informed the police that the accused had boarded a bus which was intercepted on Black Rock Main Road and he was made to disembark. When told of the allegation levelled against him Hinds replied to police, “I lash she because she disrespect me.” Today Hinds who admitted to being intoxicated on the day told the Chief Magistrate that the “sex part” of the facts read by the prosecutor was “a lie”. He added, “ I was calling her to give her money for my lil man.” It was at this point that Weekes asked the convicted man who is known to the court whether he knew about domestic violence or intimate partner violence. But Hinds explained that he had apologized but the woman had not accepted the apology. Chief Magistrate Weekes replied: “You living in 18 something, not 2021.I will keep you and you think about not putting your hands on a woman . . . . Wunna not hearing.” Hinds will reappear in court on July 5 when he is expected to know his fate.
