Hurricane Warning downgraded to Tropical Storm Warning

A tropical-storm warning is issued when sustained winds of 34 to 63 knots (39 – 73 mph; 63 – 118kmh) associated with a tropical storm or hurricane are forecast to affect Barbados within 36 hours.

At 8:30 AM the center of Hurricane Elsa was located near latitude 12.9N longitude 60.1W or about 40 MI (64 KM) just south of Barbados.
Maximum sustained winds are near…74 MPH…120 KM/H with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) . Over the last few hours, winds of up to 90mph (144km/h) with higher gusts were recorded across the island.

Elsa is currently moving towards the west-northwest (290 degrees) at 28 MPH (44 KM/H). This motion is expected to continue during the next few days. Hurricane Elsa passed south of the island a few hours ago.
Rainfall accumulations of 6 to 8 inches are forecast across Barbados on Friday. A flash-flood warning remains in effect for Barbados.
