1 300 BL&P customers still in the dark

Over the course of the last four days, the Barbados Light and Power Company (BL&P) has restored electricity to more than 9 000 additional customers, leaving 1 300 customers waiting to have their power reconnected.

This was revealed by communications coordinator at the BL&P, Jennifer Blackman on Monday.

Last Thursday, the utility company’s managing director Roger Blackman estimated that close to 11 000 customers were without electricity following the passage of Hurricane Elsa on July 2. He said then that crews were working around the clock to fully restore power to all customers within five to seven days.

In a press release on Monday, Blackman stated that only a few of the BL&P’s 132 000 customers were left to be reconnected.

“As of 4 p.m. today, Monday, July 12, we have restored the vast majority of our customers who lost power due to Hurricane Elsa, with approximately 1 300 customers remaining to be supplied. While the majority of our customers have been restored, there remain many individual or smaller pockets of customers and in some areas complex outages that will take a little more time and effort to restore,” she explained.

“We know it has been difficult being without power supply but we can assure you that we are not stopping until every customer is back.”

She said crews from the BL&P worked in Checker Hall in St Lucy; Black Bess, Rock Hall, Belleplaine, Chalky Mount, Cambridge, Haggatts, Coggins Hill, Bruce Vale and Fruitful Hill in St Andrew; and Victoria in St John on Monday. (RB)
