Barbadian lawyer and Guyanese charged in connection with over $2m worth of drugs

A Barbadian lawyer and a Guyanese national have been charged in connection with over $2 million worth of illegal drugs.

They are: 60-year-old attorney-at-law, George Adolphus Bennett, of No. 103, 1st Avenue, Warners Gardens, Christ Church and 33-year-old Guyanese Dharma Rudradeo who was staying at the same address.

The two are jointly charged with possession, trafficking and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

According to a police release the charges are in relation to a quantity of cannabis which was found at Bennett’s residence during the execution of a search warrant by members of the Drug Squad on Friday, July 30, 2021.

The illegal substance weighed 253 kilogrammes and has an approximate street value of BDS$2 020 000.00

Bennett – a former police officer – is also charged with the offences of obstructing and assaulting police officers in the execution of their duties; resisting lawful arrest; unlawful possession of ammunition exceeding the amount permitted and failing to deliver up police articles in the form of a Police Identification card.

They are expected to appear before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes this afternoon in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in connection with the criminal offences.
