UPDATE: One dead, 10 others injured in Pilgrim Road accident

One person has died and ten others injured following an accident along Pilgrim Road, Christ Church.

The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, August 6.

Police spokesman Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told reporters at the scene that the deceased is a mature male and was the driver of one of the two vehicles involved.

Acting Inspector Inniss said a white Nissan Frontier pickup owned by the Ministry of Health was travelling in the direction of Oistins and a Mitsubishi Fuso minibus was travelling in the opposite direction when the two collided head on.

“The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead on the spot,” he revealed, adding that the “driver of the minibus complained of injuries to his feet and chest pains.” He was taken away to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for medical attention.

Ten passengers in the minibus complained of various injuries – two were taken to the QEH and one was transported to the Randall Phillips Polyclinic at Oistins. The remaining seven were discharged as they opted to seek private medical attention.

Five ambulances responded to the scene along with two medical doctors as well as two fire tenders.

Police investigations continue.

The country has recorded 11 fatalities from 10 accidents so far for the year.(MM)
