Pillion rider admits to possession of gun, ammo

When Andre Decourcey Marshall was nabbed along the Speightstown Bypass on February 11, 2015, police found a hard object in the crotch of his pants, a court heard Monday. It turned out to be a lethal weapon.

Senior Crown Counsel Olivia Davis told the No. 2 Supreme Court and Justice Randall Worrell that officers discovered a firearm containing six rounds of ammunition. In his jacket pocket was another four rounds of ammunition, wrapped in tissue.

The court heard that police were on mobile patrol along Road View Road, St Peter when they spotted a motorcycle on which Marshall, of Chalky Mount, St. Andrew was the pillion rider.

As they followed Marshall – who later pleaded guilty to having the .32 revolver and the ten rounds of ammunition before Justice Worrell – he kept looking back in their direction, causing them to become suspicious.

Police signalled for them to stop by turning on the siren, the prosecutor told the court, but the driver continued on his way. They were pursued and the motorcycle eventually came to a stop along the Speightstown Bypass where Marshall attempted to flee but was held.

The search was then conducted and the mentioned illegal items were found.

He was transported to a police station, was cautioned and told of his right to an attorney. On February 12, after telling police that he had spoken to his attorney-at-law,he gave them the go-ahead to question him.

He admitted that the illegal weapon and ammunition were his but declined to give a statement.

Marshall’s defence lawyer Angella Mitchell-Gittens requested that he remain on bail pending sentence. She also asked that the time that he had spent on remand in prison be read into evidence at the next court hearing.

The prosecutor put forward no objection to Marshall remaining on bail at this time. The case will be called again before Justice Worrell on Wednesday.
