Man charged for Grazettes’ murder

A 20-year-old man has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, St Philip on a number of charges including murder.

Jared Stephen Highland-Best, of No. 75 Apes Hill Development, Apes Hill, will make his second appearance before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on October 12 where the matter has been transferred.

On his first appearance on Tuesday he went before Magistrate Wanda Blair at the District ‘D’ Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murdering Kemar Grazettes.

The 33-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on September 3. Police say he was one of two victims shot at Arsenal Playing Field, Jackson, St Michael on August 31.

Highland-Best is also accused of unlawfully wounding Carlos Taitt on August 31 with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him or to do him some serious bodily harm as well as using an illegal firearm.

It is further alleged that, on the same day, he together with other persons used unlawful violence and their conduct taken together was such as would cause a person present at the scene to fear for his or her personal safety.

The accused, who is represented by attorneys Michael Lashley Q.C. and Sade Harris, was not required to plead to any of the indictable offences.
