Flash flood watch in effect for south-western districts

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a flash-flood watch for south-western districts.

The forecasters have advised that maximum rainfall accumulations of 50.0 to 100.0 mm in heavy showers across western and southwestern districts are likely and it has urged the public to be on alert.

It said: “Residents and visitors should be prepared for the following possibilities: Some soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields. [An] increase in water levels of existing water bodies (e.g ponds etc.). Some delays on traffic routes in the area.”

The watch will be terminated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions permit.
