Police investigate death of man found hanging in cell at Holetown Police Station

Police are investigating the unnatural death of a 43-year-old man who was found hanging in a prisoner’s cell at the Holetown Police Station about midnight Saturday, November 13.

The deceased has been identified as Colin MacDonald Greene of Chalky Mount, St Andrew.

A police statement said: “The discovery was made by on duty officers who were making their routine checks and interviews of suspects in custody who were kept in the cells.

“On the officers’ initial discovery, checks for a sign of life were made and none was found, a medical doctor was immediately summoned and after his examination he [was] pronounced [dead].”

Police said Greene was first taken into police custody on Tuesday, November 2 but was assessed by the COVID-19 unit and tested positive for the coronavirus. He was treated at an isolation centre.

Greene was released to police custody on Saturday and was transported to the Holetown Station.

Police said Greene’s immediate family visited the station and identified his body.
