Local News News Sagicor donates to breast screening programme Barbados Today22/12/20210106 views The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the level of financial support received by charitable organisations and other entities that rely heavily on donations and partnerships for the execution of their programmes. However, the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme has once again received support from Sagicor, which continues to showcase its commitment to the fight against breast cancer. The leading insurance and financial institution presented just over BBD $12, 000 to the Cancer Society to help with the maintenance of their all-important screening programme The funds were raised during the month of October from sales of Sagicor’s specially designed #CheckYoursOut t-shirts, which were created to promote breast self-examinations. Paul Inniss, executive vice president and general manager of Sagicor Life Inc said the donation was the climax of yet another Pinktober campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of screening for early detection. “Self-examination is a convenient, no-cost preventive tool and should be used as part of every individual’s overall breast cancer screening strategy. However, we must never shy away from undergoing expert medical examinations, which is why the funding of the breast screening programme is so important. “As a health insurer, we know first-hand the devastation caused by this disease, and equally the benefit of early detection in the ability of individuals and families to overcome it. We, therefore, see it as our responsibility to keep spreading this message, with the donation of funds being a tangible way for us to lend our support. I’d therefore like to thank all members of the public and Sagicor team members who purchased the shirts, as it was their individual contributions that made this donation possible,” said Inniss. (PR)
