Hospital staff paid

Management of the Psychiatric Hospital is dismissing reports that its staff has not been paid lately.

Director David Leacock said the Ministry of Health has approved funds for the payment of all employees and so far, none of them has complained to him about not having received their salaries.

“The Ministry has authorised, the PS [permanent secretary] has authorised pay for all staff. So once our staff made it known to us that they are not paid, they definitely are paid. For this month and for last year, we would have been paying all staff in the hospital,” the hospital director told Barbados TODAY.

He explained that some may have received their monies “a couple of days” after pay-day because it is being processed manually, but all the staff has been paid.

An independent source within the hospital on Black Rock, St Michael said that while the temporary staff “working behind” the ones in permanent positions are waiting on their cheques, all others have been compensated.

Neither the Acting general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) Richard Greene nor president Kimberley Agard could be reached for comment.
