Local News NCF offering workshop on ‘Writing for Children’ Barbados Today Traffic12/02/20220191 views Creatives interested in getting tips and techniques for children’s writing should sign up for the National Cultural Foundation’s upcoming Writers’ Clinic. This weeks’ session, Writing for Children, will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom link. This month’s session will be facilitated by Sarah Venable.Venable, who has presented this topic in the past, is an award-winning writer of non-fiction. Her fiction and poetry have been published in Poui and in (BIM); in the anthology, The Truth About Oranges; Arts, Etc. She has worked with children after school through the NCF and Story Club and has seen what grabs their attention. Her own children’s stories have delighted audiences and readers for years. Literary Arts Officer, Karra Price, said she was pleased to be offering this topic since there is a genuine interest by local writers to tell authentic stories to their children. “It is time for our children to see their faces, landscapes and experiences reflected on the pages of their reading material. This is certainly one way to ensure we engage them and keep them conscious of their national identity,” she said. Each Writers’ Clinic session is moderated by Nailah Imoja, who founded the programme when she was literary arts officer at the NCF. The sessions are interactive and participants often have the opportunity to get feedback from presenters. In addition, attendees benefit from the sense of community created amongst members. Last month’s clinic, Tips on Getting a Literary Agent with Cherie Jones, received overwhelming support; with participants even requesting a part two. There are six sessions left in the 2021/2022 Writers’ Clinic schedule. Interested persons can email the Literary Arts Officer at karra-price@ncf.bb to register or to request more information. (PR)
