Loved ones remember Karlos Yearwood

It was an emotional time for friends, family, and close acquaintances of the late Karlos Yearwood as they came together to celebrate his life, during a vigil on Sunday.

Several individuals such as Carl Alf Padmore, who taught Yearwood at The Alexandra School, Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus, Dr Marcia Burrowes, and members of Aura Experience Crop Over Band paid tribute to the 29-year-old charismatic creative who was found dead at his West Terrace, St James home on April 2 in a case of suspected suicide.

Friend Nadia Holmes spoke fondly of him during the vigil, describing him as a “light in this world”.

“If you ever had a chance to meet him you would know that he was a light in this world. He was one of the most outgoing and courageous, reach-for-the-stars type of persons. I am just in awe at all that he has done with his short time here and I just think about what he would have done if he was still here with the rest of his life,” she said.

In an official statement on their social media pages, Aura described Yearwood as a fun-loving and dynamic member of the group who played a major role in choreographing many presentations delivered by the band.

“Karlos was easily the most energetic, fun-loving person to be around, and he possessed the gift of bringing people together. He embodied and exuded an energy and vibe that was inspiring to all of us at Aura Experience. If you were lucky enough to have known Karlos, there’s no doubt you absolutely loved him, and our lives will forever be changed as a result of this loss,” it said.

“Karlos will forever be remembered as the life of the party and the go-to person for us, where he took pride in managing our Aura Angels, choreographing amazing band launch routines and playing a pivotal role in the execution of our events. We are truly thankful to have been blessed with the years of knowing Karlos – creating with him, laughing with him, and loving him.” (SB)
