COVID-19 Update: 168 new cases

A total of 168 people, 65 males and 103 females, tested positive for COVID-19 from the 796 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Friday, May 27.

The cases comprised 32 persons under the age of 18, and 136 who were 18 years and older. There were 52 in isolation facilities, while 2,391 were in home isolation.

An 84-year-old fully vaccinated male and an 83-year-old unvaccinated female died from the virus on May 27, bringing the number of deaths from the viral illness to 446.

The public health laboratory has conducted 684,811 tests since February 2020, and recorded 80,206 COVID-19 cases (36,623 males and 43,583 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 162,345 (71.1 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of persons who are fully vaccinated is 152,758 (56.4 per cent of the total population or 66.9 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
