Six Men’s community celebrating fisher folk

Fisher folk from northern fishing villages will receive a treat this Saturday, June 25, as the Six Men’s community hosts its Fisherman’s Day.

The event, which was once a highly anticipated celebration on the Six Men’s calendar, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., following a fundraising walk in tribute to the late Curtis Martin, a member of the community who passed away in December 2020.

During the day there will be a number of activities for the fisher folk and patrons, including fish boning and dolphin fillet competitions, swimming and boat races, story-telling, music by popular deejays and a workout session with fitness instructor Spinny.

The event aims to highlight the major contribution which the fisher folk continue to make to the fishing industry and the economy, while building morale and enhancing the camaraderie which exists in Six Men’s.

Persons who reside in communities from St. Lucy Parish Church to Speightstown, St. Peter may also tune in to 107.9 FM on the day, to hear the live event. All are invited to attend.
