Kooyman hosting hurricane seminar series

This hurricane season, Kooyman has gone the extra mile to assist its customers with adequate preparation with its Hurricane Seminar Series. The hardware store will be hosting free seminars in-store from June to September, highlighting different elements of hurricane preparedness.

This past June, the first seminar focused on water storage and electricity. Customers got a chance to hear expert advice from Leon Layne of Rotoplastics Barbados and Jamal Nurse, store supervisor at Kooyman, on choosing the correct water tanks and generators for their homes.

On July 16, the second seminar will be focused on roofing, and how to ensure that your roof is secured correctly. This seminar will be conducted by Greg Parris, a structural engineer with over 20 years of experience in his field.

Charlene Mullin, Marketing Officer with Kooyman stated: “While this seminar may seem targeted more towards professionals, we have found that this is knowledge that homeowners should have as well.  Homes built within recent years should be outfitted correctly with all safety measures, but as we saw with Hurricane Elsa, homes built a long time ago may not have been retrofitted to ensure security.

Existing homeowners will learn what steps to take to ensure that their roofs are secure and prospective homeowners will learn what they should look out for when choosing or constructing a new home.”
