Local News News Weather Flash flood watch in effect for some parishes Barbados Today28/09/20220184 views The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a flash flood watch for northern, northeastern, western and central parishes until noon, but it said the alert could be updated sooner if conditions warrant. “This watch may be upgraded to a Flash-Flood warning at short notice.” A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time – generally less than 6 hours – could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible. The BMS said the intertropical convergence zone in combination with a low-level trough system continues to affect Barbados. “Over the past 24 hours between 1 to 3 inches of rainfall was recorded across parts of the island. Localised activity during the late morning and into the afternoon across northern, northeastern, western, and central parishes is likely to generate further accumulations of up to 3 inches. Due to the already saturated nature of the soils, any additional rainfall is likely to cause flooding”.
