Burke and Old Brigand join forces

Josh Burke

Josh Burke, Barbados’ multiple national surf champ, WSL Challenger series stalwart, Olympic hopeful and current number 11 in the ISA World Surfing Championships, recently signed on as ambassador for Old Brigand rum.

The famous Old Brigand rum which is affectionately referred to as the “One Eye Man” with its home base located in Foursquare Distillery and is 100 per cent Barbadian owned, will be supporting the talented Burke who continues to impress on the international stage.

“I am so very proud to be finally representing a Barbadian company, especially that my entire surf career has been supported primarily by overseas brands. Although incredibly grateful for that, it’s truly a great sense of pride to have home grown support,” Burke said.

The 25-year-old, while elated to have Old Brigand on board, has urged other Barbadian companies to come on board and support national athletes.

It has been a good year for Burke who competed recently at the World Surf League WRV Outer Banks 1000 Pro where he placed fourth overall in North Carolina. That performance also ensured he jumped 22 places to position 21 in the WSL North American rankings.

“We have so many world class athletes in the gates here in Barbados awaiting recognition, which can’t be accomplished without funding, therefore my wish is to see more of the Barbados private sector coming on board to show their financial support towards athletes that are providing more positive exposure for our island than an advertisement can buy,” Burke stated.
