SSA workers not pleased with NUPW

Scores of Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) workers are joining Unity Workers Union (UWU) after expressing dissatisfaction with their level of representation by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

From 6 a.m. workers at the Wildey, St Michael depot started filling out membership sheets as head of UWU Caswell Franklyn engaged them in discussion.

The workers huddled together with Franklyn at a nearby bus shelter to talk about a way forward in terms of how their issues would be handled.

NUPW delegates are currently meeting with management at the SSA to discuss outstanding issues.
Last month the workers at this depot held a two-day strike demanding wage, hazard pay and washing allowance increases and protested against alleged ill treatment by management. (SZB)
