West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) has copped the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association (BMA) Major Contributors to Foreign Reserves award 2022. The honour, which was presented at BMA’s Trade and Innovation Summit Awards Dinner held recently at the Sandals Resort, was a token of appreciation for WIRD’s support for economic development in Barbados over the years. Additionally, it celebrated the distillery’s resilience through the changing scenes of economic, social and political developments nationally and globally. Accepting the award on behalf of WIRD team were Don Benn, Master Distiller and Operations Manager and Stacy-Ann Clarke, Finance and Administration Manager. Mr. Benn thanked the BMA for recognising the work of the WIRD Team and explained, “This award is testament to the skill, expertise and hard work of the West Indies Rum Distillery team.” He added, “As the largest rum producer in Barbados, it is our stated ambition to continue to be the standard bearer for Barbados Rum worldwide, through the sale, distribution and quality of our Plantation and Stades rum brands. We are very proud of our heritage and equally very proud to receive this award for our strong contribution to the Barbados economy.” The Barbados Manufacturers’ Association (BMA) launched its Trade and Innovation Summit in June 2022. Its activities focused on enhancing the manufacturing industry through the emphasis on global trade opportunities for manufacturers, the showcasing of innovations within the local manufacturing sector; collaboration with international manufacturers to expose local manufacturers to technology that can be used in their local manufacturing processes and celebrating manufacturers who have contributed to the work of the BMA and the economy in general.
