PSV worker freed of 45 charges

Public service vehicle (PSV) operator Paul Dwight Alleyne, known as ‘Bashment Monkey’, walked out of the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Thursday free of 44 traffic offences and one criminal damage charge.

When the Eckstein Village, Tudor Bridge, St Michael resident appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke, the prosecutor informed the court that two of the police officers who were warned to give evidence were not present.

The prosecutor requested an adjournment, adding that one of the matters for trial dated back to 2020 and the other to 2017.

After making a request to be heard, Alleyne argued that the cases were “very old”.

“Ma’am, I have been coming for these cases since 2015, 2016, 2017, Ma’am, and the last adjournment I had two dates and it was the final adjournment. I came here every time, Ma’am. These cases out long – 2016, 2017, 2018 cases, 2013, 2014, 2012 cases. These cases back up from all then and all the time I coming . . . nothing ain’t happen,” he said.

Looking at the charges, Magistrate Burke noted that some of the matters were about a decade old and she informed Alleyne they would be dismissed.

“Justice must be balanced. This is not balanced, this is skewed on one side. We cannot have people with adjourned dates from 2013. All of these matters are dismissed against you. You can go,” she ruled.

Among the charges that were dismissed was an April 21, 2018 one alleging that Alleyne, the driver of ZR105, used a route, namely Harewood Alley, a road other than that specified on the permit.

Another was for March 6, 2012, when he allegedly damaged property belonging to Mohmed Desai.

Alleyne was also charged that on January 31, 2019, being the driver of ZR151, he stopped along Constitution Road for the purpose of setting down passengers other than at a fixed stop.

He was also charged that on March 9, 2016, being the driver of ZR339 along Collymore Rock, he allowed the vehicle to be overcrowded with people. On March 6, 2017, he allegedly stopped to pick up passengers other than at a place designated for doing so, along Nursery Drive.

On September 29, 2020, it was alleged that being the driver of MB3331, he was on the Barrow Section of the ABC Highway when the vehicle was not registered with the Licensing Authority and on December 18, 2015, he reportedly failed to comply with a no entry sign on Nursery Drive.
