2023 Gine On People’s Choice Awards well underway

The 4th edition of the Gine On! will be hosted by Belle Holder on Sunday, March 5th at the Frank Collymore Hall at 5 p.m.

This year Gine On?! will host its 4th Annual
Gine On People’s Choice Awards. Event organisers, DJ Simmons and Empress Zingha Simmons state that this year awardees will be interviewed live and can expect a red-carpet experience.

“We will document the evening through photo and video, and patrons will have the opportunity to connect with creatives across a variety of genres. At the Gine On Awards we always seek to deliver a polished celebration of Barbadian arts and culture. This is done through the help of our partners at Flow Barbados and the National Transformation Initiative. We [DJ and I] love to see creatives happy and recognized for their work, which is always at an international standard. We are excited to celebrate with all the nominated persons and their families and friends,” said the co-founder of Gine On?! Empress Zingha Simmons.

Voting is open and so far this year there have been over 150, 000 visits to the GineOn.com/Awards website by over 35, 000 individuals from all over the world.

The Celebration Ceremony Gala, which will be held on Sunday, March 5th, 2023, has 53 categories, with some persons receiving multiple nominations in various categories. These include: Ch’an and Nikita with four nominations each, Jaicko Lawrence in six categories, Mole De Chief with six nominations including Bashment Artist of the Year, Lil Rick with five nominations and Chief Diin who has two nominations in the category of Dancehall Song of the Year and five nominations in total.

For the first time, the Gine On Awards will be split into two celebrations to cater to the ever-growing demand for the award show in Barbados. On March 2nd, 2023, there will be an invitation-only cocktail party where some of the official nominees will be lauded and the first set of awards presented. This will culminate with the Gala Finale on Sunday 5th March 2023 at 5 p.m. at The Frank Collymore Hall.

The organisers also noted that this year awardees and attendees can promote their incoming song, book, album, or creative project at the Awards Ceremony and online.

“We are seeking to assist artists with the promotion of their products and services. Through the Animation Arts Learning Institute, this year the awardee of Visual Artist of the Year, Graphic Artist of the Year, and Videographer of the Year will be able to access the Introduction to Toon Boom Harmony and Introduction to 2D Animation courses, with a complimentary license. The champion of Music Video of the Year will receive one minute of animation for their next music video and the awarded Activist of the Year will receive one minute of animation to help their cause,” they said.

Co-founder of Gine On! DJ Simmons wished to thank all the partners who helped to ensure that the Gine On People’s Choice Awards could be a success.

“I would like to thank Flow Barbados, The National Transformation Initiative, The National Cultural Foundation, AALI, Abeds: The Cutting Edge, Passionate Words Editing Services, Ministry of Style, Silk Road Music Festival, Barbados Arts Festival, Eats By Chef D and Kaleidoscope The Nail Lounge,” he said.
