Teen who disrupted JetBlue flight gets community service

The 16-year-old American choirboy who disrupted an international flight at the Grantley Adams International Airport last month has been ordered to complete 80 hours of community service here by August 18.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick imposed the sentence on Shiloh Cecil Bellot on Friday after he admitted to behaving in a manner which interfered with the discharging of the functions and duties of a crew member, by uttering the words, “bomb the plane” while onboard JetBlue flight B662 on July 5.

The plea came after the magistrate, the prosecutor Sergeant Victoria Taitt and defence attorneys Michael Lashley KC, Simon Clarke and Ken Mason saw the pre-sentencing and psychiatric reports ordered on the teen.

Sergeant Taitt also read the facts of what occurred.

The prosecutor disclosed that Bellot was travelling with his family and was scheduled to depart on the flight to the US.

According to the information, he was on the aircraft standing by the boarding door among a group of teenagers when he said, “Somebody going to bomb the plane”.

A flight attendant was conducting her duties at the time and became alarmed by the statement. She asked the passenger who made the statement to identify themselves, following which the captain was notified and the matter reported. (FW) ]]>
