Women’s team a step closer to gold medal at Caribbean Area Squash Championships

The women’s team successfully executed their plan on day six defeating Cayman Islands 4-1 placing them one step closer to a gold medal finish, should they be able to repeat the same result when they encounter Guyana.

Margot Prow dismissed Jade Pitcairn (3-0) 11-2, 11-0, 11-2. Jada Smith-Padmore defeated Michaela Rensburg (3-1) 11-9, 11-4, 6-11, 11-5. Sumairaa Suleman lost to Emma Turnbull (1-3) 6-11, 6-11,11-8, 9-11. Jodi Smith-Padmore triumphed over Kali Maclean (3-0) 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 and Muffin Stollmeyer dismissed Courtney Stafford (3-0) 11-4, 11-7, 11-7.

The men’s team failed to overcome the Caymanian team in their semi-final play-off losing 2-3. Darien Benn and Stewart St John at their number 3 and 5 positions defeated their opponents Jake Kelly and Alex Frazer. Khamal Cumberbatch lost to Cameron Stafford 0-3, Shawn Simpson went down to Julian Jervis in an intense 1-3 face-off and Alex Stewart lost to Jace Jervis 0-3. The men will seek to secure the bronze medal in their next face-off against Bermuda.

The veteran men’s and women’s teams successfully defeated their opponents Jamaica and Cayman 3-0 and 2 -1. Don Benn defeated Mario O’Connor 3-1, Mark Gilkes also took down Bruce Levy 3-1 while Mark Sealy held a default win. Lilianna White grabbed a 3-0 win from Jayne Craig while Karen Meakins after dropping 1 game to Marlene West reset to win the 3-1. However, Lucyla Seale lost to Marian Goodall 0-3. This win for the Barbados veteran women’s team awards them the silver medal finish behind Guyana.
