Man dies after electrocution and fall from roof

Investigations are underway into the death of a 46-year-old general worker who was electrocuted while on the job around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, the man who had only started work on Monday, was on the roof of a building under construction at Glacial Ice (Barbados) Ltd in Salters, St George when the incident occurred.

Inspector Glenda Carter-Nicholls who was on the scene told reporters that the man was handling a long metal object that was being hoisted by a crane when the object came into contact with electrical lines, resulting in him being electrocuted and falling to the ground.

He was assisted by other persons before an ambulance arrived and took him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. However, he died while receiving medical treatment.

The identity of the man was not disclosed up to late Wednesday.
