Cherubin held over a year after warrant issued

When Paul Ambron Cherubin was taken before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Monday, it was for him to plead to three charges.

However, after it was discovered that he had a warrant out for his arrest for non-appearance in another matter since 2022, he was remanded into custody.

The 56-year-old unemployed man of Hunte’s Street, Beckles Road, St Michael pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Manila Renee to stealing food items with a total value of $31.75 from Lee J’s Supermarket, possession of apparatus intended for the misuse of cocaine, and
having in his possession without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, a knife and a box cutter while at the same supermarket.

Objecting to bail, the prosecutor outlined Cherubin’s antecedents before pointing out that the accused was before that court in another case and had not returned on the stipulated July 2022 court date.

Magistrate Renee remanded him to Dodds Prison until December 18, 2023.
