Barbadians can now enjoy the world-famous Argentine beef which Argentina’s Ambassador to Barbados Ciro Luciano Ciliberto has suggested will be popular among householders and tourists alike. Recently, the Lower Estate, St George-based Western Wholesale Inc, announced the historic arrival of the long-awaited shipment of the Argentine beef to Barbados, during a ceremony which was attended by Ambassador Ciliberto, members of the Argentina Embassy, and staff of Western Wholesale, among other specially invited guests. Ambassador Ciliberto explained that it was almost ten years ago that the Argentina Embassy started working with local health authorities to formalise relevant agreements to allow for Argentine beef to be exported to Barbados. “Finally, this year in April, we got the approval from the Barbados Veterinary Services and after that, this company was able to go into negotiations with an Argentine exporter and today for the first time ever Argentine beef is arriving in Barbados. I assure you that this is only the first shipment and that many more shipments will come because Barbados people are going to be able to know Argentine beef which is world famous,” he said. “And we hope also that we will help the tourism industry in Barbados, which is so important for the national economy,” Ambassador Ciliberto added, thanking Western Wholesale for agreeing to the partnership. Western Wholesale Group Senior Manager Kobie Broomes said the company, which is a leader in the local distribution sector, will continue to strengthen its cooperation with the Argentina Embassy to ensure that Barbadians can have access to quality Argentine beef. “A big shout out to the veterinary services. They were very instrumental in making sure that this shipment of Argentine beef has come,” he said. (AH)
