Alleyne hits exciting century; takes Player-of-the-Match

Opening batter Kadeem Alleyne lit up the Desmond Haynes Oval with an electrifying, first-ever century in the second annual BIM 10 (T10) cricket tournament which entered its third day on Friday.

Alleyne, a powerfully-built right-handed stroke player, smote the Titans’ bowlers to all parts of the Brighton, Black Rock home of the Carlton Club during his knock of 118, to help rattle up defending champions Settlers’ eventual 148 for two from their 10 overs, after they won the toss.

Titans, led by knocks of 40 from Aaron Jones and 35 by skipper Ashley Nurse, finished on a respectable 133 for five in reply.

One memorable stroke in Alleyne’s monumental innings came off express fast bowler Stefan Griffith, whom he flicked with sheer finesse and much disdain for six over backward square leg, to stir a buzz through the crowd of spectators who were royally entertained for the duration of his 42-ball innings.

Altogether he lashed 12 sixes and seven fours in dominating an opening partnership of 146 with Demetrius Richards, who was rendered a mere spectator to the savage onslaught.

Richards finished unbeaten on 20 after Alleyne was bowled in the final over by off-spinner Devon Phillips, whom he had stroked for successive sixes from the first two balls.

Earlier, Guardians also recorded their second win in as many matches, as they smoothly disposed of Pelicans in a one-sided affair.

Last year’s runners up cruised to 96 for the loss of a single wicket in reply to Pelicans’ 95 for four.

Ryshon Williams, snatched a second Player-of-the-Match award for an unbeaten 42 and in conjunction with Shaqkere Parris made light work of the winning target with five balls to spare.

Parris’ unbeaten 44 was punctuated by four sixes and came off 27 balls while Williams, who had earlier bowled two overs for 16 runs, counted two fours and three sixes from 25 balls, the pair putting on 76 in an unbroken partnership.

Jonathan Drakes (40) was the top scorer for Pelicans, while pacer Jair McAllister with measly figures of two wickets for six runs topped the Guardians’ bowling.

Summarised scores:

Match 5: Pelicans 95/4 (10 overs) (Jonathan Drakes 40 (29 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes), C. Brathwaite 21, T. Gibson 20; J. McAllister 2-6) Guardians 96/1 (9.1 overs) (Shaqkere Parris 44 n. o.(27 balls, 4 sixes), Ryshon Williams 42 n. o. (25 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixes) Guardians won nine wickets.

Player-of-the- Match: Ryshon Williams
