Man admits to 2016 murder

A St Michael man has been remanded to Dodds Prison after confessing to a murder that took place almost eight years ago.

At his arraignment on Thursday morning in Supreme Court No. 5 before Madam Justice Pamela Beckles, Shaquille Deshone Maynard, 28, of North Close, Wildey pleaded guilty to non-capital murder.

He had been jointly charged with others for the May 12, 2016, shooting death of 40-year-old Scherno Ricardo Rose of Neil’s Tenantry, St Michael. The father of two died a short distance from his home after several gunmen opened fire on him.

Principal State Counsel Olivia Davis, who appeared on behalf of the State, accepted Maynard’s guilty plea.

Maynard’s attorney Safiya Moore requested a presentence report.

Adjourning the matter until March 14, when the facts are to be read in, the judge also ordered that the convicted man’s antecedents and time spent on remand be available on that date.

Maynard was then remanded into custody pending sentencing.
