Under the theme #TogetherForABetterInternet, the company is providing several resources aimed at empowering local communities with insights into the effective use of parental control software, understanding cybercriminal behaviours, and practising responsible online behaviours. “As the leading telecommunications provider in the region, we have a responsibility of making the Internet a safer place, which is why every year we take special interest in Safer Internet Day. This year, across all our markets, we are sharing resources internally and externally, focusing on the most vulnerable audiences – children and senior citizens – so we can collectively support each other throughout the year in our online activities and education,” said Felipe Ruiz, VP, Information Security, and CISO, Liberty Latin America. LLA’s activities across the region in support of Safer Internet Day include thousands of employees joining together to promote internet safety. In Panama, the company established partnerships with NGOs including Women of Security, Internet Society of Panama, and the Authority for Government; in Trinidad and Tobago, the company hosted a session on Being Safe Online for students of the D’abadie Government Primary School; in The Bahamas, the company hosted a Teen Summit in conjunction with the Royal Bahamas Police Force; and in Jamaica, there was a Youth Summit for high school students. Liberty Latin America’s Safer Internet Day activities also include an internal campaign providing online safety resources, videos, and tools – as well as a company-wide event with watch parties in various markets featuring a virtual presentation from Gezer Molina, National Director of Cybersecurity for the Costa Rican Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Telecommunications.
