She has been taking a tour of the annual agricultural exhibition held at Queen’s Park, St Michael, since 2018. This year she wore an African print dress styled with a black handbag in the shape of a clock that accurately told the time. This brave youngster asked President Dame Sandra Mason for a photo opportunity. She arrived at the park around 10 a.m. and her first stop was at the showcase by the Barbados Cage-Aviary Bird-Association. The president was fascinated by the variety of exotic birds on show and she even got the opportunity to hold one on her finger. President of the association Roger Miller said there were at least 500 birds on show including a variety of parrots, homer pigeons, finches, budgies and cockatoos. The organisation was formed in 1993. Over at the petting zoo, Dame Sandra interacted with some of the young people in care of the animals. On show were rabbits, mice, snakes, tortoises and other animals. President Dame Sandra Mason petting a chick at the petting zoo. Fish and plants are two favourites of the President and she ensured she visited booths that had her interests on display. She visited two fish booths G’s Exotic Fish and Services and D&R Exotic Fish. She looked at the many pretty-coloured aquatic animals and inquired about some of them. Over at the Barbados Cactus and Succulent Society she had a chit-chat with some of the representatives about the plants on display. She also made a visit to the Ministry of Agriculture booth. At the show ring, Dame Sandra also pinned the winning ribbons on the top beef cows. (SZB)
